Basic Training for Pug Puppies
Written by Matt Jones on December 6th, 2008Pug puppies need basic training to shape their temperament as well as behavior habits. Pugs are not easy dogs to train as they are stubborn and strong willed. One training tip is to start early in the morning. After the training is over, that is the best time to inculcate desirable behavior habits to the pug. The training should be made enjoyable, gentle but intense as well as reward based. Instead of punishing bad behavior desirable behavior needs to be reinforced with praises, encouragements and repetitions.
Pug house training is vital to ensure that pugs use a potty for their biological functions. Almost everyone buying a pug worries how they can train it on this vital procedure to keep their houses clean and stench free. There are many pug house training schedules that can benefit one to attain this quickly. Chew toy training is another important way that teaches the pug not to steal food and to keep off the furniture’s. This constitutes vital lessons as pugs jumping on top of tables at the slightest sniff of food would be a nuisance. (by the way I hope you like the image of the pug on the left as much as I do!)
Pug puppy socialization is a necessity that is usually started by the pug breeder. Training should continue immediately the pug arrives home. This shapes a pug into a trusted member of the society as nobody likes touching or playing with an unpredictable dog. Training teaches pugs to walk on a loose leash. On the bigger picture though pug training is supposed to develop as well as strengthen a close bond between the pug and its owner.
There are basic command words that pug puppies as well as all other dogs should be taught. Training commands like down, heel, come, sit and stand cultivate obedience in pugs. They are also used as mental and physical stimulants. The come-command for example may save a pug in danger when its called averting trouble.
